Hi - I am an active, hard working 50 year old that is laid up right now. I've had two operations on my left foot recently that began in May. This is the 7th time I've had an operation on my left foot. I'm a sports freak that plays several sports, and plays them well. It's God's gift to me. I still play baseball in an over 30 league, but not this year. I'm still as good as the 30 somethings that come into the league. I play hockey, flag football, basketball, tennis, golf.. and well, you get the picture. I've lived with this left foot predicament for over 25 years. I won't let it slow me down though. It started when I was in my early 20's. I was at the beach with a bunch of friends. We all decided to do the Tarzan run into the water and dive right in since the north-east beaches of New England can be quite cold. So as I was doing my Johnny Weissmuller into the ocean, I happened to run across a sharp pointed rock that was hidden in about a foot of water. I cut a good gash in the bottom of my left foot. Well, I got out of the water, and the life guard on duty cleaned it out and bandaged it. She told me to go to the hospital to get it stitched. I didn't want to ruin the day for my friends by having to take me to the hospital. So I sat there on the sand for the rest of the day. Well, the foot never healed right, and I've had problems with it ever since. This last time they (doctors) told me that the lump inside my foot was cancer. So they need to go right in and remove it before it spreads. So fine, we do that. But now I have to go back in for skin grafts. Thats where I'm at now. I don't want pity. I'm thankful for the life I have. I have two beautful girls 18, and 16. Both are smart, and are going to college. A girlfriend that has been my mate for over 25 years. We always go on vacation in the summer, and this year is looking bad. So I'm looking forward to the end of summer to be back on my feet, haha -- hopefully in August. It would be great if you could help us out this year. Thanks, Mike Fratus!
Laid-up and hurting.
