This week marks the 3-year anniversary of the opening of HomeAway's World Headquarters located in downtown Austin, Texas - all 86,000 square feet of it. Employees love the area and can be seen grabbing lunch (daily) at Whole Foods Market, meeting co-workers at the surrounding restaurants and bars, and hiking the trails of Lady Bird Lake. HQ offers up some pretty cool stuff. Our employees can take a break during their work day and play ping-pong and video games in the Nantucket-themed 'Boardwalk' room. If the game room gets too stuffy, employees can get a breath of fresh air and enjoy stunning views of the city on the rooftop deck. When tummies are rumbling, they can head over to The Bistro which is stocked with healthy drinks, snacks and the monthly birthday mini-cupcakes, or up to the BBQ grill on the roof to cook up something they grabbed from the Whole Foods flagship store across the street. The halls are decorated with a collection of more than 1,800 vacation souvenirs including 1,300 snow globes, 148 of which are in rotating, custom-made cases. The two-story HomeAway birdhouse overlooks 5th Street and Lamar from the corner of the office, which is decorated during the holidays to spread holiday cheer to downtown Austin. There's just no reason to be unhappy at this office space when you're surrounded by Austin views and travel memorabilia all day!
We are proud to be an official "green" building, awarded with a Gold-level LEED certification for the use of eco-friendly materials. From the backgrop of the reception desk to the boardroom table, many of the office elements are made of reclaimed wood. The wood beams in the ceiling of the Board Room are salvaged from barns in New York State that back to the 19th century. At lease 50 perent of HomeAway electricity is generated by solar and wind power. Windows throughout the building let in natural light, allowing state-of-the-art lighting control sensors to reduce electric lighting accordingly. The office is also located near 10 public transportation routes and features 32 bike lockers and showers on each floor, so many of our employees ride to work!
Our HomeAway offices were designed to remind employees everyday of the memories we help create for customers and the joys of being together with the people we care about. From the photos of vacationing families printed on our walls or the 1,300 snow globes scattered throughout the office, HomeAway Headquarters creates the experience of vacationing while at work.
