"You don't have to get it together to show up."
Words spoken by Viola Davis as she began her keynote address at the Texas Conference for Women. Every year, this conference draws thousands of women from across the state, eager to be inspired and motivated by the words from well-known speakers.
Emily Aderhold, our Marketing Automation Specialist was looking forward to one speaker in particular:
"I was most excited to see Viola Davis and she was amazing, but at the end of the day, Anita Hill's keynote address made the biggest impression on me.”
While HomeAway has always had a presence at the Texas Conference for Women, this year a record number of Team HomeAway employees received passes to attend. In total, HomeAway sent 56 attendees and volunteers to the Austin Convention Center to enjoy an unforgettable day.
Software Engineer, Siobhan Burch said, “it was an awesome experience to be around so many powerful women. As a woman in the tech field, we aren’t always so lucky to be in that type of setting very often.”
While some of Team HomeAway attended sessions, others volunteered at the HomeAway Lounge where author and keynote speaker, Mallika Chopra hosted two book signings. Our volunteers met hundreds of women interested in learning more about working at HomeAway or renting a property on our platform.
Senior Recruiter, Bryan White, at 6’5 with a full beard, definitely stood out among the crowd of women at the HomeAway Lounge.
“I was blown away by the sheer size of the conference. The energy was great in the room and it was a lot of fun to talk to people about who HomeAway is, what our values are and what types of people we are seeking to hire.
Most of the women I spoke to were professional, predominately from tech companies.”
Before the conference, we filmed a Facebook Live at our Downtown Austin office with PR Manager, Melanie Fish. It was our take on Vogue’s famous “73 Questions” with celebrities, but instead of shooting in a mansion, we shot in the birdhouse!
Mallika also did a Facebook Live from the HomeAway Lounge during the conference to promote her book, "Living With Intent: My Somewhat Messy Journey to Purpose, Peace, and Joy."
With so much energy surrounding this event, it’s no surprise Team HomeAway is already talking about next year’s Texas Conference for Women. The 2018 conference will be on November 9 at the Austin Convention Center.
