In my next life, I’ll be a fashion magazine editor. Each September I’ll be on the road for the back-to-back New York, London, Milan, and Paris fashion weeks—those weeks full of fashion shows when fancy designers invite top editors, actresses, and pop culture figures to see their new collections. While I’m traveling, I’ll probably irritate everyone on social media with a post or two about how grueling the schedule is and how hard it is to fit in all the shows I want to see. I choose fashion editor instead of fashion model as my next career because (1) I’m probably not going to be seven inches taller in my next life and (2) I really, really like to eat. A lot.
For now, I’m living vicariously through my new friends at Glamour Magazine. HomeAway had the privilege of finding Glamour’s editors homes away from home in Milan while they covered Gucci, Versace, Dolce…
These are people who work every day tracking and reporting what’s stylish, so we felt the pressure to make sure their stay was Glamour-worthy. We found two lovely HomeAway vacation rentals for them. The first is a beautiful home in the historic center of Milan that is part of a nineteenth-century palace with a fantastic garden. The other is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom penthouse a short walk from the center of Milan.
I’m sure the work of a fashion editor is fabulous, but even the most glamourous jobs can wear you out and at the end of the day make you long for a home to return to, even better if that home is in a palazzo.
Melanie Fish is not a fashion editor (yet). She is HomeAway’s in-house travel expert.
