Pack gym shoes
Make sure you bring a pair of gym shoes with you. Being able to work out in the environment that you are surrounded by can be motivating! In the mountains - go for a hike. By the ocean - go for a run on beach. Have a beautiful deck area at your rental? Do a cardio workout right there. My best tip? Get sneakers that are lightweight and collapsible like the Nike Free 4.0 Flyknit so they don’t take up much room in your suitcase. I also recommend always packing colorful workout apparel that will make you feel excited to work out while on vacation. Some of my favorites are from Old Navy’s new active collection.
Keep a water bottle handy
Different locations mean different altitudes, air quality and temperatures. Make sure you’re prepped to always stay properly hydrated by bringing a water bottle with you. Just don’t fill it with water before passing security. Some airports like San Francisco International have hydration systems in place to help you refill and stay refreshed on the go!
Grab a workout buddy
Find a friend or family member that you can work out with. It will help you stick to your planned fitness routine and is a kick ass way to enjoy your time together. Have kids? Take them on a hike and make it a fun-filled family activity.
Aim to Maintain
Enjoy your vacation and shoot for staying fit on-the-go rather than losing weight. While on vacation, it’s sometimes harder to find time to fit in longer workouts. Let yourself be ok with a 15 minute workout. A short workout is better than nothing!
