In this Employee Spotlight we're featuring Charles Wagner, Director of Software Engineering. In December 2011, Charles participated in the most recent Random Hacks of Kindness (RHoK) event in Austin where programmers donate time and their skills to help local organizations create solutions for technical issues.
Random Hacks of Kindness is a platform of hundreds of partnerships and has hosted 4 global events to date, in 45 cities around the globe with over 4,000 participants, as well as numerous independent community events. The Austin RHoK’s was the 5th global event. The umbrella organization was founded in 2009 by Google, Yahoo!, the World Bank, NASA, and Microsoft.
The organization that Charles worked with was PictureBoard.org. The goal of the project was to build Augmented and Alternative Communication software that works on any device, is universal, multi-lingual, free, personalized, learns from usage, and is maintained by a community. When asked why he chose to participate in RHoK Charles said, "I always loved volunteer work where people can use the skills that they have and have worked on for years and present them in a different way."
