Whether you’re hitting the slopes or taking a beach vacation, HomeAway has many unique and entertaining properties to choose from. Of course, there is always the possibility bad weather will hit the area, the kids will get bored, or everyone just needs a little competitive fun. In those cases, HomeAway still has you covered.
One of the many unique qualities a number of our vacation rentals offer are fantastic game rooms. We spoke to some of the owners of these game rooms to how they came to offer these amazing amenities and how they help their home stand out.
“My amenities have made my properties destinations in and of themselves, and I have renters that say they feel a little guilty because they have so much fun at the house that they don't leave,” property owner Rick McClanahan said. “My properties provide a playground for kids, and happy kids make happy parents. That happy insurance has extreme value to someone planning a family vacation.”
Rick McClanahan has three properties listed on HomeAway and VRBO that are each outfitted with impressive game rooms, 18 hole private mini golf courses, horseshoe pits, fire pits and more.
“When we purchased our vacation home, we knew we had to differentiate it from all the other vacation homes in the area at that time,” Terry Puffer said.
This Disney-themed game room offers a pool table, pop-a-shot basketball game, driving arcade game, Wii, shuffle bowling, and a standing arcade game with over 1,000 classic games. In a “Top Ten Vacation Home Amenities in the US” article, this game room was ranked number seven.
Terry Puffer attributes the positive, five-star reviews from previous renters to the popularity of his game room, which is referred to in the majority of the reviews on HomeAway.com.
“The game room is why everyone books it. The kids see that, and they want mom to book it,” property owner Philip Wilson said. “Most of the design of the house was designed because of our family trips. We wanted to have a house that was suitable for the kids and adults. The size of the house, kitchen, seating areas, the two living rooms, game room and the other amenities were all designed for a big family reunion.”
“We need to entertain people of every age,” said property owner Gretchen Anderson. “What better way to do that than a great game room? A game room not only entertains all ages but also creates an electronics free, fun, playful boding experience. The guests love it! Especially on the random rainy day. And creating happy guests is our goal!”
This game room includes surround sound, a television with Pandora and Netflix, a Jurassic Park Pinball machine, air hockey, ping-pong, shuffleboard and more.
Each of these game rooms certainly helps their respective properties stand out amongst the crowd, but you don’t have to have a full-blown arcade in your vacation rental to differentiate it and attract renters. The best thing about vacation rental homes is that they are as much about where you stay as where you’re going—stay tuned to the HomeAway Blog for more ideas on how to differentiate your home and keep creating amazing unique experiences for your guests!
